Is It Possible to Have an Alcohol Withdrawal From 1 Night of Drinking Heavily?
Question by SaSa: Is it possible to have an alcohol withdrawal from 1 night of drinking heavily?
I don’t drink that often (probably once every 2 months), and when I do it’s usually a couple beers or a few shots. I always wake up fine though.
This past Friday [4-2-10] I drank a lot (8 shots in 4 hours). I’m 5’2″ and weigh 113 lbs. I woke up fine on Saturday. Mild headache, but drank lots of water. I didn’t throw up at all – not on Friday or Saturday.
It is now Monday, & starting last night I had cold sweats, trouble sleeping, I’m very irritable, shaky, lightheaded and feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest.
I looked up these symptoms and came up with “Alcohol Withdrawal” as my diagnosis. However, every legitimate/reliable site has said that Alcohol Withdrawal can only happen to someone who has been drinking every day, or continuously for weeks/months.
Why You Should Consider a Medical Detox
If you or someone you know suffers from an addiction to drugs they may experience what is known as withdrawal when they stop using the drugs. This can cause great struggle within the body that result in severe symptoms and reactions. These symptoms are most painful during the first few days after a person gets off of drugs or alcohol. It is suggested that people who are getting off drugs seek medical intervention that can curtail the effects of withdrawal. Medical detox can be a very helpful tool to allow people to end their drug addiction and move on with their lives and get their life back on track.
